Encryption Policy
The safety and security of the information stored and transmitted by the Migration Manager software is of the utmost importance to Migration Manager. Advanced encryption methods are used widely throughout the software.
Database Encryption
Migration Manager clients are offered a choice between storing their data locally in their own SQL Server databases or storing data on industry leading Microsoft Azure web servers. Database encryption varies depending on which of these options is used.
Encryption for Azure Databases
All data stored in the Azure databases is protected both in transit and at rest.
Data at rest is protected by transparent database encryption, using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. This means your data is protected by the same leading-edge security used by governments around the world, including Australia; the world’s largest banks and most highly trafficked websites.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)/Transport Layer Security (TLS) is used to protect data in transit between you and the Azure database; it's designed to create a secure tunnel protected by 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption.
Encryption for Local Databases
If you choose to host the database yourself, database encryption will be managed by your own IT team.
Client Portal / Web Questionnaire Encryption
Migration Manager’s Secure Client Portal is a web portal that allows Migration Manager users to communicate securely with their clients. The Web Questionnaires are contained within the Portal. Portal and Web Questionnaire data is stored on the industry leading Microsoft Azure web servers, with extensive use of advanced encryption methods.
The Secure Client Portal includes:
- Secure transmission of documents
- Secure messaging
- Web questionnaires
- The ability to keep clients informed about progress on their matter
- Full integration with the Migration Manager desktop application
All data on the Secure Client Portal is encrypted both in transit and at rest.
We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)/Transport Layer Security (TLS) to protect data in transit between you and the Azure servers.
All sensitive data stored in the Azure data centres is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption. This includes names, email addresses, uploaded documents and all data collected when a questionnaire is filled out.
In addition, all data stored in the Azure databases is encrypted using Transparent database encryption, which again uses AES encryption. This means that sensitive data in the portal database is encrypted twice, for an extra level of security.
All account passwords stored in the application are one-way hashed and salted.
