Removing Empty First Page from Merged Letters

The latest update to Microsoft Office can cause an issue in Migration Manager where some templates that are merged using a Letterhead will result in the document appearing with only the Letterhead on the first page, then the contents of the letter beginning on page 2.

Although the issue was caused by a Microsoft Office update, our Migration Manager Developers are working on a solution to override this issue so that Templates will merge as expected.

In the meantime, below is a workaround guide on how to remove the page break.

If you encounter a Merged Letter that contains only the Letterhead on the first page, follow these steps to remove the page break.

1. Select the 'Show Formatting' option

In Word, select the Home tab, then in the Paragraph section, click the Show/Hide button.

You will see the Page Break that will need to be removed

2. Go to Page Setup

Double-click on the 'Section Break (Next Page)' to bring up the Page Setup window.

3. Change the 'Section Start' and 'Apply To'

  1. Change the 'Section Start' to 'Continuous'.
  2. Change the 'Apply to' to 'Whole document'.

Then click OK.

The Page Break has now been removed.

4. Turn 'Show Formatting' back off

From the the Home tab, you can then in the Paragraph section, click the Show/Hide button to hide the Formatting.
