Setting up Windows permissions for client’s documents and exported data
While a user’s access to client’s documents within MM is restricted by the application, it is the responsibility of the company’s IT department to restrict and maintain Windows access to client’s documents.
There are two methods that can be used to control a user’s access to client’s documents in MM;
- Restrict access to own files only
- Restrict access to files belonging to user’s office
Data Exported from Migration Manager can also be restricted via Windows permissions.
Note: If user's permissions are later changed in MM, the Windows permissions need to be updated on the client’s folders also.
Setting up Windows permissions for client’s documents
Choose the security option that most suits your company's needs
1. Create a Windows group for each Office
2. Assign users to each Office Windows group
3. Set permissions on each client folder
1. Before creating a client in MM, use Windows File Explorer to create the folder that will store the client’s documents.
Within your Migration Manager\Clients folder, create a sub-folder with the name of your new Matter ID
As an alternative, you can let Migration Manager create the folder for you as part of the Matter creation process. Just be aware that Security on the folder will not be set until you complete the next steps.
